  4. I am only an amateur photographer although I love photography, which I consider in many cases a true artistic expression.
There’s a lot of technique here (which I absolutely do not hold…) but in my opinion… too much.
What I love when looking at a photo is perceiving the soul and feeling emotions. Maybe it’s a limit from me, but here I can feel none.

Nice post! Most are amazing however some go over the top and look sickly in my opinion (i.e. no. 4 and 6)

Wouldn’t it be nice if people correctly did HDR and made it look like it was still a photograph instead of overdoing it and making it looks like complete crap? These are all horribly ugly save maybe 1 photo. I wish this stupid HDR fad would just go away.

Yeah, when it looks like a painting rather than a photo, you know it’s gone way to far. I’m a photoshop wizard, and most of these are totally overboard. Slight touches here and there, thats what brings the photo to life.

By what rule does a “photograph” have to look like a photograph? Who made that up?

Love them! I have a bunch of HDR stuff myself and like Chris, I do prefer the slightly more subtle HDR. My latest is here: http://martinsoler.wordpress.com/2010/01/17/when-the-sun-sets/

Or try the HDR category to see them all: http://martinsoler.wordpress.com/category/hdr/

  11. I like Goldengate Bridge and Autumn Park Alley images, all other seem to be over processed. As Chris, I prefer when HDR effect is subtle and unnoticable.

Beautiful? By that if you mean oversaturated poorly done HDRs, yea, sure. Only 4-5 of them make the grade. The rest look like they’ve been done by newbies jacking the sharpening, saturation and tone mapping to 11.

This isnot the HDR I like. It looks more like illustration than photo, and it’s too much.
I prefer the HDR technic of TreyRatcliff, http://www.stuckincustoms.com/
I’ve got a tripod now, I have to make my own hdr…

  31. These photos are absolutely terrible. Maybe 2 or 3 are true HDR, the rest are over saturated, over cooked crap!.

What is happening to photography as an art when people class this crap as good?.

Pfft! They look fake! Some are ok. As a model based out of Frisco, the Golden Gate is one of the best photos I’ve seen of San Fran. Most of these look like paintings rather than photos. Too over-saturated, too overdone.
